Abstract
⺠Previous studies suggested that FGF signaling is important for lens formation. ⺠We conditionally deleted FGF receptors to test the role of FGFs in lens induction. ⺠Fgfr1/2 deletion greatly increased cell death at the onset of lens induction. ⺠Pax6 and other lens cell markers were not reduced in the lens placode. ⺠FGF signaling is important for lens cell survival, but not for lens induction.
