Abstract
► We constructed deletions of the checkpoint proteins Mec1 and Sgs1 in C. albicans. ► The SGS1 mutant is sensitive to more DNA-damaging agents than the MEC1 mutant. ► The MEC1 mutant exhibits more genome instability than the SGS1 mutant. ► Neither deletion influences the frequency of antifungal drug resistance. ► Our data constrain the models linking genome instability and drug resistance.
