Abstract
⺠In Aspergillus nidulans, urate oxidase (gene uaZ) catalyses the formation of 5-hydroxy-isourate. ⺠Genes encoding the two following enzymes, leading to S-(+)-allantoin were identified (uaX and uaW). ⺠Two transcription factors, UaY and AreA co-regulate uaZ, uaX and uaW. ⺠No gene clustering is extant in the purine utilisation pathway in this organism.
