Abstract
► How myocytes differentiate between contractile and reactive signaling Ca2+ remains a mystery. ► We hypothesize three possibilities and discuss recent work that supports each scenario. ► We present a model in which microdomain Ca2+ and elevated diastolic Ca2+ mobilize reactive cardiac signaling.
