Abstract
► NIS mRNA and protein expression was evaluated in NaI-treated PCCl3 cells. ► NaI treatment was carried out for 30 min to 24 h. ► NaI excess acutely decreased NIS mRNA content, half-life and recruitment to ribosomes. ► NaI treatment rapidly reduced NIS mRNA translation rate and NIS content. ► Iodide regulates NIS gene expression by posttranscriptional mechanisms.
