Abstract
⺠Background: The interaction of BACE-1 and the prion protein was reported to decrease formation of beta amyloid. ⺠Results: Increased expression of the prion protein increases BACE-1 expression and APP cleavage. ⺠Conclusion: Interaction between BACE-1 and the prion protein are likely to be indirect. ⺠Significance: Prion protein expression does not decrease beta-amyloid formation.
