Abstract
► We describe pre-ischaemic conditioning in the rat caudate for the first time. ► We show that ischemia-evoked dopamine efflux can be used to measure conditioning. ► We use fast cyclic voltammetry to measure dopamine release in response to ischaemia in real time. ► We show that 10 but not 2 min of pre-ischaemic conditioning evoked tolerance to a second ischaemic event.
