Abstract
► Brain ouabain is a key in blood pressure regulation upon excess sodium intake. ► Ouabain is produced by immortalized N1 cells, which are of hypothalamic origin. ► Aldosterone augments ouabain release in cultured N1 cells. ► Ouabain release is blocked by eplerenone, a mineralocorticoid receptor blocker. ► Thus, there is aldosterone-regulated secretion of ouabain by the hypothalamus.
