Abstract
► Astrocytes primarily express Glucose transporter 1 to take up glucose under normal conditions. ► Oxygen and glucose deprivation resulted in an increase in the expression of astrocytic glucose transporter 3. ► The increase was regulated by nuclear factor-κB. ► The increased GLUT3 was responsible for the enhanced storage of intracellular glucose during reperfusion. ► The phenomena possibly contribute to the increased resistance to subsequent severe ischemia.
