Abstract
⺠Astrocytes primarily express Glucose transporter 1 to take up glucose under normal conditions. ⺠Oxygen and glucose deprivation resulted in an increase in the expression of astrocytic glucose transporter 3. ⺠The increase was regulated by nuclear factor-κB. ⺠The increased GLUT3 was responsible for the enhanced storage of intracellular glucose during reperfusion. ⺠The phenomena possibly contribute to the increased resistance to subsequent severe ischemia.
