Abstract
ⶠIn this study, we investigated the functional characteristics of choline uptake in neuroblastoma cells. ⶠCholine is mainly transported via an intermediate-affinity choline transport system, CTL1. ⶠCTL1 is Na+-independent and is functionally linked to both NHE1 and NHE5. ⶠFurthermore, choline uptake through CTL1 is associated with ACh synthesis. ⶠThe transport activity of CTL1 in cholinergic neurons may play an important role in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease.
