Abstract
▶ In this study, we investigated the functional characteristics of choline uptake in neuroblastoma cells. ▶ Choline is mainly transported via an intermediate-affinity choline transport system, CTL1. ▶ CTL1 is Na+-independent and is functionally linked to both NHE1 and NHE5. ▶ Furthermore, choline uptake through CTL1 is associated with ACh synthesis. ▶ The transport activity of CTL1 in cholinergic neurons may play an important role in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease.
