Abstract
ⶠtPA activity is transiently increased but decreased chronically in ischemic brain. ⶠtPA and PAI-1 is mainly expressed in neurons and astrocytes, respectively. ⶠtPA is released in acute condition in neurons by glutamate. ⶠPAI-1 is upregulated in chronic condition by inflammatory signal. ⶠOverall, increased PAI-1 downregulates tPA activity in chronic ischemic condition.
