Abstract
â¶ tPA activity is transiently increased but decreased chronically in ischemic brain. â¶ tPA and PAI-1 is mainly expressed in neurons and astrocytes, respectively. â¶ tPA is released in acute condition in neurons by glutamate. â¶ PAI-1 is upregulated in chronic condition by inflammatory signal. â¶ Overall, increased PAI-1 downregulates tPA activity in chronic ischemic condition.
