Abstract
⺠Dlx gene phylogeny largely follows the typical pattern inferred with the process of genome evolution. ⺠Nested expression pattern of Dlx genes specifies the dorsoventral identity in pharyngeal arches. ⺠The nested Dlx expression pattern probably existed at the jawed vertebrate ancestor.
