Abstract
⺠This article updates the Brazilian national capacity for innovation. ⺠The scientific, technological and industrial policies for vaccine development and production are discussed. ⺠The results indicate significant progress, but with important gaps that must be overcome for a rapid increase in vaccine research. ⺠The new Industrial Health Complex Program is presented as a crucial player to bridge these gaps. ⺠The links between scientific and technological policies should be strengthened to accelerate innovation and development of new vaccine products.
