Liposomal SLA co-incorporated with PO CpG ODNs or PS CpG ODNs induce the same protection against the murine model of leishmaniasis

► The nuclease-resistant (PS) or -sensitive (PO) CpG ODNs were used as adjuvants. ► A liposomal delivery system was developed to protect PO CpG ODNs from degradation. ► Soluble Leishmania antigens (SLA) were used to immunize mice against leishmaniasis. ► Liposomal SLA containing PS CpG ODNs or PO CpG ODNs induced the same protection rate. ► Liposomal PO CpG ODNs might be used instead of PS CpG ODNs in future vaccine study.
