Abstract
⺠We studied mumps vaccine effectiveness (VE) during a mumps outbreak. ⺠The VE in schoolchildren was high for two doses of the mumps vaccine. ⺠Among household contacts of confirmed mumps cases, the VE was much lower. ⺠Mumps vaccination is highly effective in schoolchildren in the Netherlands. ⺠However, the low mumps VE in high exposure settings (households) is of concern.
