Abstract
► IpLITRs encoding cytoplasmic ITIMs are potent inhibitors of lymphocyte cytotoxicity. ► IpLITR-mediated inhibition is mediated by a SHP-1-dependent and -independent mechanism. ► The SHP-1-independent inhibitory mechanism is also ITIM-independent and may involve binding of the C-terminal Src kinase. ► Teleosts contain an array of inhibitory signaling mediators and their intracellular targets similar to those found in mammals.
