Abstract
- Serum total cholesterol and aortic atherosclerosis were studied in Opisthorchis felineus-infected humans.
- Opisthorchis felineus chronic helminthic infection (CHI) is associated with lower serum total cholesterol levels.
- Opisthorchis felineus CHI attenuates expansion of fatty streaks, fibrotic and complicated atherosclerotic lesions in aorta.
- Opisthorchis felineus burden is the independent negative predictor of aortic atherosclerosis.
