Abstract
⺠Day-feeding midges which bite macropods are infected with Leishmania in northern Australia. ⺠Leishmania promastigotes within these midges form a promastigote secretory gel-like plug containing metacyclics. ⺠Australian Leishmania sp. is closely related to the Brazilian species Leishmania enriettii.
