Abstract
► A pyrimethamine+sulphadoxine-resistant rodent malaria genome was sequenced. ► Its genome sequence was compared with that of a sensitive progenitor. ► Four point mutations were identified: on chromosomes 2, 7, 13 and 14. ► The K392Q mutation in mdr2 is genetically linked to sulphadoxine resistance. ► mdr2 is a novel candidate gene underlying antifolate resistance in malaria.
