Abstract
Libraries in Africa operate in resource-constrained environments. Paying for journal subscriptions or purchasing books has become increasingly unsustainable. The University of Zambia (UNZA) library system has faced financial difficulties in meeting the information needs of its constituency. This paper reviews various survival strategies that the library has adopted over a number of years to meet these needs. The library has been able to manage serials subscriptions and provide print or electronic access through key global initiatives and exchange programs.
