Abstract
The mechanical properties of polypropylene (PP) with 40% ash content were calibrated as a function of strain rate in the ranges 500 to 1000 sâ1 and temperature from â35 to 85â¯Â°C using a special Split Hopkinson tension bar. In this system, an infra-red spot heater and a liquid nitrogen freezer were used to control the test temperature. The experimental results show that the tensile stress-strain response of polypropylene strongly depends on the applied strain rate and test temperature.
