Abstract
⺠We study whether breathy-to-creaky phonation contours are found in English and Hmong. ⺠Contrastive breathiness or creakiness is more extensive than non-contrastive non-modal phonation. ⺠Non-contrastive breathiness in the two languages behaves similarly. ⺠Contrastive breathiness in Hmong is less differentiated from modal but differs more in intervals than non-contrastive variety. ⺠Breathy and creaky phonation can occur simultaneously in the acoustic output for Hmong.
