Abstract
Several studies investigated the impact of 5-bp insertion/deletion (ins/del) polymorphism in the promoter region of GAS5 LncRNA on cancer risk and the results were inconsistent. So, we performed a meta-analysis to examine the association between GAS5 5-bp ins/del polymorphism and cancer risk. The PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Google scholar databases were searched and 8 relevant studies including 7005 cases and 8576 controls participants were identified. Pooled odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated and the findings did not support an association between 5-bp ins/del polymorphism and cancer risk. One of the main reason for the negative result may be the heterogeneity derived from different cancer type. Larger well-designed studies are required to validate the findings.
