Abstract
In this study, a large high-quality tetragonal KTa0.53Nb0.47O3 (KTN) single crystal of 18â¯Ãâ¯18â¯Ãâ¯35â¯mm3 was grown by the top-seeded solution growth method. The complete sets of elastic, dielectric, and piezoelectric constants for the [001]C-poled KTN single crystal with a macroscopic 4-mm system were confirmed via the combined resonance and pulse-echo ultrasonic methods. The values of the electromechanical coupling factors k33 and kt were 0.690 and 0.618, respectively, similar to those of PZT5A. In addition, the orientation dependence of those properties was calculated via the tensor transformation method, and it was found that the maximum d33â¯=â¯132â¯pC/N, s33E â¯=â¯9.5â¯Ãâ¯10â12â¯m2/N, and k33â¯=â¯0.69 occurred with the new z-axis oriented along [001]C.
