Abstract
MnO addition had a remarkable effect on the microstructure, mechanical and electrical properties of BaO-Al2O3-B2O3-SiO2 glass-ceramics. The crystallizing behavior was investigated by the whole pattern fitting method. The sintering kinetics was also studied based on the shrinkage rate curves. The result showed that 1â¯wt% MnO addition effectively promoted crystallization and densification. It was found that the high crystallinity as well as the large grain size contributed to the strong bending strength and Young's modulus. For the sample doped with 1â¯wt% MnO, bending strength and Young's modulus increased significantly from 136.3â¯MPa to 201.2â¯MPa and 59.7â¯GPa to 79.7â¯GPa, respectively.
