•The result phrase of Type B resultatives cannot be properly handled in terms of a property-path traversal, contra Broccias (2013).•The “tight link” proposed by Broccias (2013) suffers from a number of problems.•The occurrence of multiple result phrases cannot be accounted for in terms of “tight links.”•_To one’s death_ metonymically stands for the place where one is presumed to die, fully in accord with Goldberg (1991).
