Abstract
The article deals with two major figures in Russian literature of the 20th century, Vladislav Khodasevich and Boris Pasternak. It describes the situation in which Khodasevich's autobiographical fragment called ‘Mladenchestvo’ (‘Infancy’) was created, almost immediately after the publication of Pasternak's Okhrannaia gramota (Safe Conduct) and the numerous critical responses to it, especially by G.V. Adamovich and A.L. Bem. It is assumed that Khodasevich started work on his own autobiography after reading Оkhrannaia gramota.
