Abstract
The article investigates Leskov's sketch ‘Putimec’ in which Gogol' appears as a character. Sources of the sketch include Old-Russian literature, Russian folklore and legends, Gogol's work, his letters and (apocryphal) anecdotes referring to the writer, whom Leskov greatly admired. Special attention is also paid to references to Zagoskin's historical novel Iurii Miloslavskii.
