Abstract
The article examines Emil Medtner's interpretation of Hegel's and Kant's philosophy in the light of Goethe's work. The author suggests that, in the polemics with Andrei Belyi, Medtner successfully defended the heritage of German transcendentalism from the ideological exploitation by his contemporaries.
