Platonovʼs thoughts about the future of mankind are in one way or another connected to the image of the engineer. The engineer is a source of conflicting opinions and premonitions. The character of the engineer is placed in the centre of Platonovʼs drama High Voltage, by which the author tries to put a stop to the poetics based on the entropic principle, which ruins the boon of production. However, we can find the image of the engineer in both early Soviet and German cinema. Therefore, the films of the 1920s represent the possible source for the character of the engineer in Platonov. Symphony of the Donbass was filmed in the spirit of production ethics, as a kind of hymn to work. In our study, we will consider the connection between the drama High Voltage and this film in the context of Platonovʼs thoughts about Soviet man, who is swallowed by either the entropic or the energetic principle.
