Abstract
In this paper the author investigates Tiutchev's ‘Pominki’, a translation of Schiller's ‘Das Siegesfest’. The date of writing is uncertain and factors are considered that could narrow it down. The literary and political contexts of Tiutchev's ‘Pominki’ are outlined. They comprise Zhukovskii's earlier translation of Schiller's poem, which, perhaps, Tiutchev sought to emulate, and also Zhukovskii's translation of the Odyssey. All of this is considered against the background of the events in Europe in 1848–1849 and their repercussions in Russia.
