Abstract
The author reconstructs the circumstances of the first publication of a French-language text by Zhukovskii, which was found by L.B. Modzalevskii in 1948 and is known under the title ‘Abstract of the History of Russian Literature’. It was supposed that the ‘Abstract’ had been intended for a French periodical, but as the author shows, it was in fact published in the 7th edition of the Brockhaus Encyclopedia (1827). She analyses a number of differences between the original text and the German article and by reviewing the contacts of Zhukovskii during his voyage to Europe in 1826-1827 she attempts to understand the genesis of the ‘Abstract’.
