Abstract
In our view, the recent publication of d'Anthès' letters puts in doubt the seemingly obvious version about his homosexuality. We assume that d'Anthès was a heterosexual and analyze the consequences of his highly contradictory (according to our assumption) status with respect to his homosexual patron Heeckeren. In the first place, it concerns motives of d'Anthès' pursuing Pushkin's wife – that is, the key point in the story that has ended by duel.
