Abstract
In the present paper the author aims to re-establish a more balanced view of Chernyshevskii's attitude towards Pushkin. In the course of time Chernyshevskii's stance has been simplified and misrepresented, by isolating seemingly negative statements about Pushkin or his admirers from their context and ignoring positive remarks by Chernyshevskii. This image of Chernyshevskii has been primarily established by Nabokov's hero Godunov-Cherdyntsev in The Gift, and is in need of revision.
