Abstract
Experiments of pedestrian counterflow through bottlenecks in the channel are performed with 200 test persons. The lane formation is studied based on the trajectories extracted by a video processing method. The time evolution of the density and velocity, and flow rate in various scenarios with different bottleneck widths and flow ratios are emphatically investigated. The fundamental diagram is obtained at high density situations and is compared with the data of other experiments. The empirical results in this work can enrich the database of pedestrian evacuation study and provide suggestions for the design of pedestrian facilities.
