Abstract

The general aim of this study is to investigate the factors that generate fear in children's life. The applied methodology in this survey is qualitative. 8 students aged 10-12 years were purposefully selected, interviewed and asked to draw pictures of fear-generating cases. The fears observed in the children can be categorized into several classes. Some fears are more common in specific periods of development; therefore, children more or less have identical fears and can illustrate their fears in drawings, even in the colours they choose for them. In essence, fears are acquired. Environmental factors, previous painful experiences and observation of a relative have a significant effect in forming individuals’ fears. More deeply psychoanalytical research is recommended
