Abstract

The aim of the study is to present the main characteristics of incarcerated mothers from Romania, special emphasized on their psycho-socio-educational status. For this purpose we relayed on a population of 136 inmate mother and the investigation was made through the questionnaire of needs evaluation. The majority of the women deprived of freedom were convicted for non-violent offences; researched population have, in general, very low educational level; the life histories of these women offenders are characterized by social and economic disadvantage; their emotional experiences are characterized by frustration, conflict, guilt and on this background also appears the social stigmatization.
