Abstract

Computer Science Curriculum 2013 has become the guidance of computing education since it was released in 2013by the ACM/IEEE-Computer Society. This paper analyzes the CS curriculum development trend, trying to dig the programming-related core from CS2013 with respect to the knowledge areas, topics, organization of teaching, and the building of students’ capability. Considering the characteristic of our local institution and undergraduates, we present an updated teaching curriculum and lab curriculum for C Programming Language course in relation to CS2013 recommendations, which highlight the development of the students’ abilities on programming, problem-solving, self-regulated learning, and computational thinking. Finally, we present and assess the implementation of the resulting curriculum.
