Abstract
We examine the perceptions and oral presentation performances of UPM Civil Engineering students as regards the use of questions outside the question-and-answer round. The results yielded by 23 questionnaires and the analysis of 10 recorded presentations show a low exploitation and limited rhetorical and syntactic interrogative patterns, which suggests the need for broadening repertoires and remodelling the genre towards a more interactive model.
