Abstract
In this paper, the punctuation of cohesive devices, namely discourse markers, in international scientific prose is studied. It is shown that the use of punctuation marks does not always comply with the rules and the classification of cohesive devices according to the criterion of regularity of punctuation patterns is given. Several possible factors, such as the position of a conjunctive adverb in a sentence and national punctuation features of a non-native English speaker (researcher), which may affect the inconsistency in punctuating scientific corpora, are discussed.
