Why do they Call it Education when they Mean… Employability? On the Concept of Utility in Education

The work is framed in the field of relations between education and the labour market. The focus of our analysis will be from Philosophy and Theory of Education and not from Labour Pedagogic. Without any doubt, this relationship is possible by the evolution, fastest growing, of professional profiles more valued by the labour market, and its relationship with the qualification required for its realization. Qualifications, most of time, given by higher education institutions likes colleges and universities. Thus, the University is at a crossroads between career guidance o vocal education and the engagement with its traditional liberal education. In our work we try to analyse the notion of utility, and the need to have methodologies in higher education to overcome and reconcile these traditions.

ResumenNuestro trabajo se enmarca en el ámbito de la educación superior, y de las relaciones entre educación y trabajo. Sin embargo, el enfoque de nuestro análisis no será tanto desde la Pedagogía Laboral, como desde la Filosofía y la Teoría de la Educación. Sin duda alguna, esta relación es posible por la evolución, cada vez más rápida, de los perfiles profesionales más valorados por el mercado de trabajo y su relación con la cualificación exigida para su realización. Cualificación que, la mayoría de las veces, viene dada por instituciones de educación superior como las Universidades. En concreto, nuestro trabajo se centrará en estudiar la filosofía educativa dominante en la educación superior desde la óptica de la utilidad.
