Abstract

The development of high rise building in Surabaya growth rapidly. Unfortunately the development of high-rise buildings mainly focused on market preferences and surface soil rather than the underground condition. By referring to this condition, several areas in Surabaya has a high intensity ground vibrations due to an earthquake. The results of this study is then reprocessed and continued to be overlaid withthe finding of developers preference using a combined method of Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Geographic Information System (GIS).From the standpoint of physical analysis, which focuses on the risks of earthquake and the need to meet market demands such as land availability, infrastructure, and market size so it is necessary to produce suitability map for high-rise buildings which are safe and profitable according to comprehensive study. The results of this study are expected to be beneficial for government to create a policy high rise building zone based on the spatial aspect, the physical aspect as well as the preference of developers to municipalities.
