Abstract
This paper studies the problem related to the inappropriate use of the mathematical language in the tasks that occur in the current international testing of students, known as PISA. An analytic review of the formulation of tasks is given, and their vagueness and ambiguity is shown in specific examples. The paper also deals with the issue of understanding the place and the purpose of mathematics education in the school system of the Republic of Serbia.
