Abstract

This paper focuses on the awareness of HIV/AIDS among secondary school girls. Findings show that all the respondents have heard about HIV/AIDS. However, their knowledge and understanding on how it is transmitted is vague as less than one fifth know that HIV/AIDS can be transmitted through breast feeding and only 54 percent know than it can be transmitted through blood, drug injection and bodily fluid. Furthermore, 80 percent of respondents believe to be engaged in a relationship in the near future. This may possibly place them in the high risk group who are vulnerable to the HIV/AIDS infection.
