Abstract
In Romania, the legal status of adoption is regulated by the Law nr. 273/2004, republished in the Romanian Official Monitor, Part I, nr. 788, from 19 November 2009. The law was modified several times, more recently by the Law nr. 233/2011 and by the New Civil Code, which entered into force through the Law nr. 71/2011. In Romanian legislation, the approval for child adoption is given by the Guardianship Court. Even if, in the field of adoption important changes have been made, there is still the necessity to harmonize Romanian legislation with international and European ones.
