Abstract
This article considers the concept «civil» marriage used in modern literature, distinguishes the criteria of «civil» marriage offered by the researchers of the problem. It shows the results of the «pilot» research directed to revealing the motives inducing young people to live together not less then five years on the moment of poll to choose such form of life. It also marks the major motive of non-registered marriage as the desire for economical independence and the fear of possible adultery.
