Abstract
This study investigates the writing assessment issues implemented in teaching English for academic purposes for Year 1 students in Colleges of Applied Sciences in Oman. For the purpose of the study, 13 English practitioners were interviewed and their answers were dealt with in a qualitative manner. The findings show that there is a need to improve the effectiveness of writing assessment schemes in order to develop the students’ conceptual knowledge of their major studies and to integrate research skills and ESP materials in the existing curriculum.
