The objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) was incorporated into the Operative Dentistry Course curriculum in 2008. The processes of development, implementation and improvement of this assessment method are reported. Initially, the examinations were conducted whereby specimens or questions were provided at each station and the students were required to answer questions related to the specimen without doing any clinical tasks. However, during the last two academic sessions, the department has taken a step forward by including several clinical tasks in a simulated clinical environment assessed by trained examiners. Feedbacks from the examiners were analyzed and improvements were made accordingly. Clinical procedures that require further improvement were identified and rectifications were made via demonstration and seminars.
