Abstract
Deafness can impair the normal cognitive and social development in a child. Therefore, the beginning of school is a cause of stress for the child, family and school community. Through a literature review, this paper aims to list the concerns that deaf children's parents have to deal with and to identify the role that the Portuguese sign language interpreter represents in the school organization and how he/she can be a stress reduction facilitator for children and their relatives.
