Abstract

The problem analyzed was that of what steps should be taken, if any, to ensure the construction of a new indoor, multipurpose arena in the city of Pittsburgh within the next 3 years. The options evaluated in this analysis were as follows. Should the arena be funded publicly through taxes, privately through investors, or not built at all, creating repercussions which would include losing the Pittsburgh Penguins hockey team? The result of this study is that a new arena needs to be constructed and that the use of public funding is the best choice to do that. Nevertheless private investor backing still proves to be an acceptable and viable option compared to not building a new arena at all.
